5 Reasons Why Simple Logos are Best for Branding | Rubia Marketing & Design

What’s in a logo? Can you identify the companies associated with all four?

My nephew introduced me to a game on his phone where the goal was to match logos with their respective businesses. Confident in my skills, I eagerly took up the challenge. I have a small obsession with analyzing logos, after all, so I was confident going into the game. But, to my surprise, I lost! WHAT?! It turns out, my logo observation skills are limited to those that are simple and timeless. Apart from a few major brands (hello, bullseye), I surprisingly struggled to identify common companies.

My philosophy on logos is clear: keep it simple. Here’s why.

Memorability

Simple logos are easier for people to remember, making them more likely to stick in the minds of consumers. When choosing a graphic, like Amazon’s subtle arrow, ensure it aligns with your brand promise.

Versatility

Simple logos are more versatile and can be easily scaled to different sizes and used across various mediums without losing their impact. A submark can help scale the brand on different mediums without compromising its integrity.

Timelessness

Simple logos tend to be more timeless than complex ones, as they are less likely to be tied to specific design trends that may change over time. As one of the most recognizable brands globally, McDonald’s provides a prime example. Its history is fascinating. Read about it: The McDonald’s Brand Is Famous And So Is Its Logo.

Clarity

Simple logos are often clearer and easier to understand, quickly conveying the essence of a brand to consumers. The FedEx logo exemplifies this. Have you noticed the arrow between the “E” and “X” in the logo? Swoon.

Recognition

Simple logos are more easily recognizable, even from a distance or when viewed briefly, which is crucial for brand recognition and recall. My rule? Pretend your logo is on a billboard. If you can’t read the name from your car going 70 mph, it’s not effective.
